João Costa announces his return to Dakar Classic in 2024 with the support of Grupo Alves Bandeira

2023-07-18

João Costa will return to Dakar Classic in 2024, behind the wheel of a UMM Alter, after making his debut in the event in 2022, finishing in the eightieth position overall, driving a SsangYong Musso. The same car was driven in the 1997's Dakar by Patrick Tambay and Jerome Rivière.

Dakar Classic is a renowned event that harks back to the era of pioneers, rooted in the history of Dakar, allowing vehicles from the 1980s and 1990s to hit the Dakar tracks once again.

The UMM Alter vehicle not only represents the portuguese brand União Metalo-Mecânica but also boasts an extensive resume in Portugal. It initially served as the first car for the pilot Francisco Esperto in the UMM Trophy. This vehicle has been prepared for the event by the reputable Portuguese mechanic Carlos Barbosa "Tucha" and will be navigated by Luís Galvão.

The Alves Bandeira Group couldn't miss being part of this portuguese project. Therefore, João Costa and his team will have the support of the brands MatraX Tyres, Alves Bandeira, and Tyres Online in this international event.

This will be the 4th edition of the Dakar Classic and will take place in Saudi Arabia from January 5th to January 19th.
